L’isola d’Elba, the largest Tuscan
Archipelago, is perfect for tourists who go for sea and nature,
who are looking for a cruise-destination or an exclusive stay.
Elba is easy to reach thanks to the ferry-lines. Both main
ferry-companies "Moby Lines" and "Toremar" do
a run each hour, during the summer season that is. There is
also a private boat-company t hat
guides you along the fascinating coast of the island. This
company offers an incomparable choice of anchorage-points.
The climate is mild and the weather is nearly always clement.
Elba is situated at 5 miles from the Italian mainland and at 30
miles from Corsica, the island has a width of nearly 15 miles, from
east to west and is characterised by the island's hilly features,
culminating in monte Capanne (1019 m), situated near the western
end of the island. It is possible to do the entire coastside
by boat (more or less 50 miles), in one single day, or by car, in
more or less 4 hours. The streets and expressways are in good
condition, moreover, if you do the trip by car you can visit the
numerous characteristic villages on your way. To appreciate
the island's fascinating side you should take your time do discover
all the small natural bays or man-created little ports.
But do not hesitate making a trip into the hinterland by using the
local bus-services, or by renting a motorcycle or car. (The island
has various rental agencies ). This adventurous spirit enables
you to travel the entire island in four days to a week, but you
certainly do not run the risk to annoy yourselves by prolonging
your stay.
